Johnson inspired a national \u201csystem of trails\u201d for the American people.\u00a0 Congress passed the National Trails System Act, signed into law by President Johnson on October 2, 1968.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-6815 size-thumbnail alignright\" style=\"text-align: -webkit-center;\" src=\"http:\/\/pnts.org\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/NTS-150x150.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pnts.org\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/NTS-150x150.png 150w, https:\/\/pnts.org\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/NTS-300x300.png 300w, https:\/\/pnts.org\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/NTS-768x768.png 768w, https:\/\/pnts.org\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/NTS-1024x1024.png 1024w, https:\/\/pnts.org\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/NTS-100x100.png 100w, https:\/\/pnts.org\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/NTS-75x75.png 75w, https:\/\/pnts.org\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/NTS-250x250.png 250w, https:\/\/pnts.org\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/NTS.png 1350w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Today, the National Trails System (NTS) includes 11 National Scenic Trails and 19 National Historic Trails authorized by Congress, and more than 1,200 National Recreation Trails (including 21 National Water Trails).
