Smith documented hundreds of Native communities along what is now known as the Chesapeake Bay during those excursions and the sites documented on his map now serve as archeological hotspots and sacred places to local Native peoples. Points of interest include the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nps.gov\/cajo\/learn\/noaa-smart-buoys.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">first National Water Trail in the U.S.<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nps.gov\/cajo\/planyourvisit\/werowocomoco.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Werowocomoco<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nps.gov\/cajo\/planyourvisit\/native-lands-park.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Native Lands Park.<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Northern Terminus:<\/strong> Cooperstown, New York<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Southern Terminus:<\/strong> Suffolk, Virginia<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The CJSCNHT begins on land and on the water at the southern end of the Chesapeake Bay, moves northward through the Bay and along side trails that follow the James, Potomac, Rappahannock, and Sesquehanna Rivers.
