John \u201cAppleJack\u201d Betz recorded his 2018 PCT thru-hike using a 5K resolution 360-degree video camera and produced a two-hour video<\/a> with scenic highlights from the trail accompanied by music.<\/span><\/p>\n HIKING APP<\/b><\/p>\n Now is not the time to be on the <\/span>Appalachian National Scenic Trail<\/b>, but you can make progress toward the more than 2,000-mile goal\u2014along with your friends\u2014using the “Walk the Distance<\/a>” smartphone app, which tracks your walking\/running distance (daily steps) and provides checkpoints with A.T. photos. You can also check out Backpacker Magazine\u2019s Appalachian Trail in 3-D<\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n HIDDEN VISITOR STAMP<\/b><\/p>\n The National Park Service created a new virtual visitor stamp that is hidden somewhere on the <\/span>Lewis and Clark National Scenic Trail<\/b> website. People can click around www.nps.gov\/lecl<\/a> to find out more about the people, places, and stories of the trail and eventually find the stamp, which can be printed for passport books.<\/span><\/p>\n DIGITAL PUZZLES<\/b><\/p>\n JUNIOR RANGER ACTIVITIES<\/b><\/p>\n Several trails offer learning activities for youth, which are especially useful while schools are closed. For example, kids can download a Junior Explorer<\/a> handbook in English or Spanish about the <\/span>Arizona National Scenic Trail<\/b>, fill out a questionnaire to become a Junior Web Ranger<\/a>, and watch \u201cFridays with a Ranger<\/a>\u201d videos about the<\/span> Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n LEARNING ACTIVITY<\/strong><\/p>\n Take a virtual trip<\/a>\u00a0on the Nez Perce (Nee-Me-Poo) National Historic Trail<\/strong> via Google Earth. Parents can download teaching and learning tools such as coloring books from the Learning Center.<\/span><\/p>\n EVENTS<\/strong><\/p>\n The sixth annual Continental Divide Trail Days was scheduled to take place in Silver City, NM from April 24-26, 2020, but was canceled as COVID-19\u2019s spread increased. In its place, the Continental Divide Trail Coalition<\/strong> hosted a Virtual Trail Days<\/a> celebration throughout the month of April, which was free to the public and streamed via <\/span>Facebook Live<\/span><\/a>.
