In 1821, the Santa Fe Trail was opened as a commercial route between Missouri and New Mexico by William Becknell and his party of five traders.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-12888\" src=\"http:\/\/pnts.org\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/sfta-200th-website-300x194.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"194\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pnts.org\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/sfta-200th-website-300x194.jpg 300w, https:\/\/pnts.org\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/sfta-200th-website-1024x663.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/pnts.org\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/sfta-200th-website-768x497.jpg 768w, https:\/\/pnts.org\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/sfta-200th-website-640x414.jpg 640w, https:\/\/pnts.org\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/sfta-200th-website-150x97.jpg 150w, https:\/\/pnts.org\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/sfta-200th-website.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A new website, www.santafetrail200.org, has been launched to provide information to the public about events that will be taking place throughout 2021, as well as a new \u201cSanta Fe Trail 200th\u201d Facebook page. The premier event will be the SFTA Symposium scheduled for September 22-26, 2021 at La Junta, CO and Bent&#8217;s Fort National Historic Site. Funds will be used to develop a podcast, &#8220;The Santa Fe Trail Lives On,&#8221; which will provide a platform to share the many stories related to the history of the Santa Fe Trail. Deb Goodrich, chair of SFTA\u2019s Publicity Committee and the Santa Fe Trail 200th Committee, will be the host for the podcast and will work with Dave Kendall on the production.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-12893\" src=\"http:\/\/pnts.org\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/santa-fe-trail-200-logo-300x231.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"231\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pnts.org\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/santa-fe-trail-200-logo-300x231.jpg 300w, https:\/\/pnts.org\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/santa-fe-trail-200-logo-768x590.jpg 768w, https:\/\/pnts.org\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/santa-fe-trail-200-logo-640x492.jpg 640w, https:\/\/pnts.org\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/santa-fe-trail-200-logo-150x115.jpg 150w, https:\/\/pnts.org\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/santa-fe-trail-200-logo.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Santa Fe National Historic Trail will be featured in a segment of season 11 of A Taste of History, a TV cooking series hosted by Chef Walter Staib that explores America&#8217;s cooking through history, scheduled to begin airing on PBS stations in July 2020. Filming on location, the chef visited the Santa Fe Trail sites and helped prepare recipes with Katie Lange at Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop and Farm, Olathe, KS and with Shirley McClintock at Trail Days Caf\u00e9 in Council Grove, KS.
