{"id":13719,"date":"2020-10-26T16:35:37","date_gmt":"2020-10-26T21:35:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pnts.org\/new\/?p=13719"},"modified":"2020-10-26T16:35:37","modified_gmt":"2020-10-26T21:35:37","slug":"2019-u-s-forest-service-highlights","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pnts.org\/new\/2019-u-s-forest-service-highlights\/","title":{"rendered":"2019 U.S. Forest Service Highlights"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Trail Administration <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2014 Administered five NSTs (Pacific Crest, Pacific Northwest, Arizona, Continental Divide, and Florida), one NHT (Nez Perce), and managed portions of many others.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Maintenance <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2014 Maintained and cared for approximately 6,115 miles of trail across the six NSHTs administered by the USFS in Fiscal Year 2019.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Trail Improvements <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2014 Improved (i.e. alterated, expanded, or constructed) approximately 103 miles of trail across the six USFS administered NSHTs in FY19.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Volunteer Support <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2014 Volunteers made significant trail maintenance contributions to the six NSHTs administered by the USFS in FY19, as a total of approximately 235,507 volunteer hours were completed with an in-kind value of almost $5,800,000.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Planning <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2014 Made progress with Nez Perce National Historic Trail and Arizona National Scenic Trail on their Comprehensive Management Plans.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>National Forest System Trails Stewardship Act Implementation <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2014 Continued to implement the Trail Maintenance Priority Areas, including the entire Continental Divide National Scenic Trail and a variety of sections of other NSHTs.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>National Strategy for a Sustainable Trail System Implementation <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2014 Continued implementation of the National Trail Strategy, with the release of the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">10-Year<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Trail<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Challenge expected in 2020.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Trail Administration \u2014 Administered five NSTs (Pacific Crest, Pacific Northwest, Arizona, Continental Divide, and Florida), one NHT (Nez Perce), and managed portions of many others.
