{"id":14277,"date":"2021-02-24T19:18:09","date_gmt":"2021-02-25T01:18:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pnts.org\/new\/?p=14277"},"modified":"2021-02-24T19:18:09","modified_gmt":"2021-02-25T01:18:09","slug":"2020-santa-fe-national-historic-trail-highlights","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pnts.org\/new\/2020-santa-fe-national-historic-trail-highlights\/","title":{"rendered":"2020 Santa Fe National Historic Trail Highlights"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Santa Fe Trail Association (SFTA)<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>OUTREACH<\/b><\/p>\n<p><strong>200th Anniversary \u2014<\/strong><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>SFTA launched a new website for the Santa Fe Trail 200th at:<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.santafetrail200.org\">www.santafetrail200.org<\/a><\/p>\n<p>SFTA provided assistance and input to Dave Kendall in his production of a documentary for the Santa Fe Trail 200th.<\/p>\n<p>SFTA assisted with the rededication of a DAR marker in Oklahoma to begin activities for the Santa Fe Trail 200th.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Media \u2014<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>SFTA shot aerial footage of the Santa Fe Trail through the Cottonwood Crossing Chapter area.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>This can be viewed at: https:\/\/youtu.be\/MH4Zh0SD2S0<\/p>\n<p>SFTA sponsored and assisted with the filming of a segment of \u201cA Taste of History\u201d from the Santa Fe Trail<\/p>\n<p>SFTA received a grant from Humanities Kansas to create the \u201cSanta Fe Trail Lives On!\u201d podcast<\/p>\n<p><strong>GeoTour \u2014<\/strong> SFTA maintained an active &amp; successful \u201cGeoTour on the Santa Fe NHT.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Promotions \u2014<\/strong> SFTA created a rack card to promote Quivira Chapter SFT sites, as well as Santa Fe Trail 200th events.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Digital Media \u2014<\/strong> NTIR\u2019s new Digital Media Champion\u2019s focus on digital media greatly increased outreach efforts to a broad range of publics.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Social Media \u2014<\/strong><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The Santa Fe NHT Facebook account follower count increased by 30%.<\/p>\n<p>NTIRs Instagram account grew to 3000 followers in FY20, an increase of over 100%.<\/p>\n<p><strong>PROTECTION<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Signage \u2014<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>SFTA created and submitted sign plans for sections of the trail.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>SFTA participated in meetings with the Dept. of Transportation offices of Missouri and Kansas concerning new signage on state highways along the Santa Fe National Historic Trail and came to an agreement for placing signage on their right-of-ways<\/p>\n<p><strong>Trail \u2014<\/strong> SFTA developed a new hiking trail and exhibits at Black Jack Rut.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Preservation \u2014<\/strong> SFTA partnered with the Santa Fe Trail Center to preserve a section of ruts near Chase, KS to be known as the \u201cSharp Ruts\u201d and includes signage\/parking lot\/driveway.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Installation \u2014<\/strong> SFTA installed an interpretive wayside exhibit at Ralph\u2019s Rut, Chase, KS<\/p>\n<p><strong>Trip \u2014<\/strong> SFTA organized a field trip to locate crossing site at Turkey Creek.<\/p>\n<p><strong>HPHS \u2014<\/strong> NPS adopted a new, partner-oriented protocol for designating High Potential Historic Sites and High Potential route segments under the National Trails System Act, and initiated a pilot program with the Santa Fe Trail Association to assess its effectiveness and usability.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Atlas \u2014<\/strong> NPS Completed the Santa Fe National Historic Trail Park Atlas.<\/p>\n<p><strong>CAPACITY<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Workshops \u2014<\/strong><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>SFTA held two workshops, with the National Trails Office, to focus on mutual projects including the Survey 1, 2, 3 app and the nomination of Santa Fe Trail sites as High Potential Sites and Segments.<\/p>\n<p>SFTA assisted the National Trails Office with the SFNHT Foundation Documents\/Interpretation workshops and review process.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Volunteers \u2014<\/strong> SFTA engaged volunteers to use the National Trails Office Survey 123 app for inventorying SFNHT assets.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Staff \u2014<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>SFTA hired a part-time employee to coordinate efforts and lead publicity for the Santa Fe Trail 200th<\/p>\n<p>NTIR hired a new Cultural Resources staff member to assist with external compliance actions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fundraising \u2014<\/strong> SFTA launched a fund-raising campaign for the Santa Fe Trail 200th.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Santa Fe Trail Association (SFTA) OUTREACH 200th Anniversary \u2014\u00a0 SFTA launched a new website for the Santa Fe Trail 200th at:\u00a0 www.santafetrail200.org SFTA provided assistance and input to Dave Kendall in his production of a documentary for the Santa Fe Trail 200th.
