{"id":14283,"date":"2021-02-24T19:18:07","date_gmt":"2021-02-25T01:18:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pnts.org\/new\/?p=14283"},"modified":"2021-02-24T19:18:07","modified_gmt":"2021-02-25T01:18:07","slug":"2020-oregon-and-california-national-historic-trails-highlights","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pnts.org\/new\/2020-oregon-and-california-national-historic-trails-highlights\/","title":{"rendered":"2020 Oregon and California National Historic Trails Highlights"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Oregon-California Trails Association (OCTA)<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>OUTREACH<\/b><\/p>\n<p><strong>Internet \u2014<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>OCTA&#8217;s intern created approximately 20 videos for its YouTube Channel to help increase outreach efforts.<\/p>\n<p>OCTA launched a new Trails Head website with interactive map of the KC area.<\/p>\n<p>OCTA increased its Facebook following from 2000 followers to 3100 followers and launched new Instagram and Twitter feeds.<\/p>\n<p><strong>PROTECTION<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Legal \u2014<\/strong> OCTA won a lawsuit to stop a powerline project near Sutherland, Nebraska and continue to proceed with a lawsuit to stop the B2H powerline project along the Oregon Trail in eastern Oregon.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Development \u2014<\/strong> OCTA continues to work to improve the stability of a site near Fernley, Nevada and are actively working on developing the Johnson Ranch site north of Sacramento and a recreational trail that would connect Elko, Nevada to the California Trail Center.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Signs \u2014<\/strong> NPS Completed sign plans and purchased 12 signs for Scott&#8217;s Bluff Co., NE, and 5 signs for Morrill County, NE, to mark the historic route of CALI, MOPI, OREG, and POEX NHTs.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Exhibits \u2014<\/strong> NPS managed contract for\u202feight \u202flow-profile wayside exhibits\u202fto be placed along\u202f SAFE, OREG, and CALI NHT in \u202fKansas.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Design \u2014<\/strong> NPS finalized one\u202f charette \u202fdocument, detailing proposed design and interpretive concepts\u202ffor St Joseph, MO, along the POEX and CALI NHTs.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Partnership \u2014<\/strong> NPS signed partnership certification agreement with Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for Mormon Trail site at Martin&#8217;s Cove WY.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Studies \u2014<\/strong><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>NPS published\u202fFeasibility Study Revision Additional Routes to the\u202f Oregon, California, Mormon Pioneer, and Pony Express National Historic Trails\u202fto IRMA and ArcGIS Online.<\/p>\n<p>NPS reviewed several draft reports on the Columbia River\u2019s role in emigration along the Oregon Trail from contractor Historical Research Associates, Inc.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>NPS initiated a \u201cFirst Year in Oregon\u201d historical research project, contract awarded to Historical Research Associates.<\/p>\n<p>National Park Service (NTIR) participated in 48 compliance reviews for external federal undertakings with potential to affect the California National Historic Trail.
