Trail Intern Grants help organizations hire interns to further their missions and expand their capacities. The TAP helps up-and-coming and aspiring outdoor professionals aged 18-28 network and discover pathways to careers in trails or similar fields.<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<div id=\"attachment_18125\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/pnts.org\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/49654081651_5646060cc1_o-1-1-scaled.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-18125\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-18125 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/pnts.org\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/49654081651_5646060cc1_o-1-1-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-18125\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>Image of Jane Pollack on the Florida National Scenic Trail in Big Cypress National Park<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cI <\/span><span class=\"s1\">wasn\u2019t aware that working in the trails community was an option,\u201d said Jane Pollack, who is now the Communications and Outreach Manager for the Florida Trail Association (FTA). \u201cMy view of working in the outdoors industry was limited. I thought I needed to do research, obtain a degree in a field I wasn\u2019t encouraged to pursue, or work as a forest ranger. I was delighted when I realized that my skill set was needed in the trails community as well.\u201d<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">Jane\u2019s transition into the trails world came after receiving a Bachelor\u2019s degree in English with an emphasis on postcolonial studies from the University of Florida. Her professional career began in publishing, but, as she nourished a deeper connection with Florida\u2019s dynamic natural environment, she sought to pair her passion for the outdoors with her career path.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">When the FTA posted their Gateway Communities Coordinator position, an internship funded by PNTS\u2019s Intern Grants, Jane knew she had to apply. \u201cI viewed the internship with the FTA as the perfect intersection of my personal passions and my professional ambitions,\u201d she explained. Serendipitously, she was thru-hiking the Trail when she discovered and applied for the job. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">After almost a year as Gateway Communities Coordinator, Jane successfully applied for and transitioned into her current role with FTA.
