{"id":7349,"date":"2018-01-31T16:26:55","date_gmt":"2018-01-31T22:26:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pnts.org\/new\/?p=7349"},"modified":"2019-05-18T07:43:34","modified_gmt":"2019-05-18T12:43:34","slug":"arizona-nst-2017-highlights","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pnts.org\/new\/arizona-nst-2017-highlights\/","title":{"rendered":"Arizona NST 2017 Highlights"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Arizona Trail Association (ATA)<\/strong><\/p>\n<h4>OUTREACH<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Gear Girls \u2014 Held program engaging young women in mountain biking, snowsports, and trail work through REI grant.<\/li>\n<li>Trail Skills Institute \u2014 Held five successful training courses to teach sustainable trail design, dry stone masonry and armoring techniques, corridor maintenance, and hydrology.<\/li>\n<li>Trail Communities \u2014 Installed four new signs for Gateway Communities.<\/li>\n<li>Communication \u2014 Worked with Representative Martha McSally (R-AZ) to announce her goal to hike the entire Arizona NST.<\/li>\n<li>Social Media \u2014 Grew followers by 25 percent.<\/li>\n<li>Inventory \u2014 Assisted in completing inventories of signage, facilities, trail conditions, road crossings, and trail values in support of the comprehensive plan process.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>PROTECTION<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Steel Gates \u2014 Installed ten \u201csuper gates\u201d to protect the trail from motorized abuse and reduce vandalism while still being hiker, mountain biker, and horse friendly.<\/li>\n<li>Bridges \u2014 Installed four bridges to protect the East Verde River watershed and reroute the Arizona NST from a powerline road onto singletrack.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>CAPACITY<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Staff \u2014 Increased hours that staff are working to support their mission; hired a new Development Director; hired three new co-leaders for youth outreach program; added 16 new volunteer trail stewards.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>Unless otherwise indicated, all material in Pathways Across America is public domain.
