I’m Gary Werner, the Executive Director of the Partnership for the National Trails System (PNTS). Our organization advocates for the 30 amazing trails that together create an American legacy, the National Trails System.

As a child, I walked with my parents across the glacial terrain of Wisconsin – the hills of the moraines, around the kettle lakes, and atop the eskers left by the glacial melt water. As a family, we visited places where Lewis and Clark camped nearly 200 years before and where emigrants traveled across the Great Plains and through the Rocky Mountains on their way to Oregon. These landscapes of scenic beauty and history are truly inspirational and they started me on a path of discovery.

While my path started on what are now known as the Ice Age National Scenic Trail and the Oregon National Historic Trail, your path might start on any of the 30 national scenic or historic trails – that is, if we can find the support we need to keep the dream of these trails alive!

Today, we are seeking 500 supporters who care about the national scenic and historic trails and their legacy. Honor your favorite trail – a trail tracing one of the historic periods of America or a scenic trail that captures the iconic landscape of a region or mountain range – by donating to PNTS today.

Our national trails are an American legacy built and maintained by citizen volunteers mobilized by nonprofit trail organizations. Can you help by becoming a supporter of the Partnership for the National Trails System today with a donation of $50 or more?

Thank you for your support, and make sure to explore your national trails this year!

With gratitude,

Gary Werner

The National Trails System includes 30 national scenic and historic trails and over 3,000 national recreation and rail trails.
