PNTS Letters to Congress: Trails and Economic Stimulus

Attached are letters that the Partnership for the National Trails System sent to House and Senate leadership on May 5th and March 23rd urging specific attention to trails as they work on a long-term economic stimulus and infrastructure package.

Now is a good time to reach out to your Congressional contacts and urge continued attention to outdoor recreation and particularly national trails as an integral part of reviving the economy. The PNTS letter requests, in particular, additional funding for agency trail operation, construction and maintenance accounts, authorization for specific capital construction projects on national trails, investments in cooperative hiring and training programs and attention to rural areas that depend on outdoor recreation for economic stability. In addition, we urge inclusion of the Great American Outdoors Act – full and dedicated LWCF funding and backlog maintenance funds for all four federal land management agencies – and the Recreation Trails full funding act.
