TroyWaynePoteeteTroy Wayne Poteete served two four year terms in the Cherokee Nation Tribal Council during the Administration of Chief Wilma Mankiller in the 1990’s. He holds a J.D. from the University of Tulsa College of Law and was appointed to the Cherokee Nation Supreme Court in 2007. — Poteete was a founding member of the Trail of Tears Association in 1993 and served on the Board of Directors continually until the Spring of 2014 when he assumed the duties of Ex. Director. — He is a Storyteller, telling true tales drawn drawing on a rich family history in the South of the Cherokee Nation and a lifetime of service in the Cherokee Nation government. Poteete frequently lectures on Cherokee History, often discussing the forced removal known as the Trail of Tears. Poteete offers audiences a Cherokee perspective on the marking of the trail routes from the Southeast to the present day Cherokee Nation. — He offices in his home town, Webbers Falls, OK, the Capital of the Cherokee Dixieland, and lives on Deep Branch atop Council Hill overlooking the Cherokee Old Settler Capital, Tahlonteskee, in Sequoyah County, OK
