Dr. Dorothy A. Autrey is a retired Professor of History and former Chair of the History and Political Science Department at Alabama State University. Dr. Autrey serves as Program Chair for the National Center for the Study of Civil Rights and African-American Culture at Alabama State University. Dr. Autrey has an extensive research background in African-American history and the civil-rights movement. She earned her B.A. degree in history at Talladega College and her M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in American history at the University of Notre Dame. Her Ph.D. dissertation is titled, “The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People in Alabama, 1913-1952,” was published in 1985.
