Dr Janice Franklin, PhD – Library Science; Dean, Levi Watkins Learning Center & Project Director, The National Center for the Study of Civil Rights and African-American Culture at Alabama State University
Janice R. Franklin is Dean of Library and Learning Resources at Alabama State University and co-founder of the HBCU Library Alliance.  Dr. Franklin’s recent professional recognitions include:  The “Mover and Shaker” designation from Library Journal in 2004, the Distinguished Service Award from the Alabama Library Association and election to the OCLC Member’s Council.  She received a prestigious NEH Challenge grant to establish the National Center for the Study of Civil Rights and African-American Culture at ASU.  Her previous appointments include serving as Assistant Professor in Library Media at ASU, Adjunct Professor at the University of Alabama, and Library Director for the School of Library and Information Science at Texas Woman’s University, where she received her Ph.D. degree and a Distinguished Alumni Award.
