Saturday Trailbuilding Workday – Dane County Chapter
Monthly through November, the Dane County Chapter will be hosting a trail builder/maintenance workday on one Saturday each month. We’ll determine the scope of the work and the location closer to each workday and this posting will be updated accordingly. Please consider joining us by planning ahead and putting this date on your calendar now! All volunteers are welcome; no experience necessary!
- What: Scope of trail work to be determined and will be updated no later than 2 weeks before the date of the workday. Social hour with refreshments and snacks to follow.
- When: Saturday, September 26th, 9am-2pm
- Where: Location to be determined and will be updated no later than 2 weeks before the date of the workday.
- What to wear/what to bring:
- Lunch, snacks, and water.
- Layers for variable temperatures and weather conditions.
- Sturdy hiking or leather work boots (no tennis shoes) and leather work gloves.
- Trail work gear: hat, long-sleeve shirt, long pants, and rain gear.
- Day pack with water, sunscreen, and mosquito repellent.
- If needed for the type of work: Personal protective equipment (PPE), for example helmets/face shields, hearing protection, etc.
Registration: Registration details will be updated no later than 2 weeks before the date of the workday.
Volunteers in Parks (VIP) program (REQUIRED): The Ice Age Trail is part of the National Parks Service (NPS) and NPS asks that all volunteers file, on a yearly basis, a Volunteer Service Agreement form. In the unlikely event of an injury, a VIP’s medical expenses are covered by the National Park Service.
